@quid: It seems that this behavior happens either way; it's best not to give it any positive reinforcements in the form of hats. The only hats on this site should be \hat and \widehat.

This would solve both the problem that some users here want them and some don’t, and the inconsistency that someone’s hard-earned hats vanish when moving across sites. | |
