Who gets the reputation?
@ScottMorrison Not seriously, the difference in this case is in score, not in reputation. Seriously, the proposal of downvoting a correct answer is absurd.

Who gets the reputation?
@ScottMorrison Which is both true, and a non sequitur.
comment
Who gets the reputation?
@ScottMorrison Maybe to increase the difference to 10?

Long-term archiving of MathOverflow
Copies could be sent periodically to math departments (there is usually at least a library liaison). This could probably be done automatically, and universities that express interest could be added to the list.

Asking exactly what you need
@ToddTrimble Yes, ok, that's true. So rather than "ask exactly what you need", perhaps words to the effect that the question should be as precise as possible. If the point of the question is an attempt to clarify what the right question ought to be in a specific setting, this should be made explicit.

Re 3): Yes. Also: Vote to close as "unclear"; the vote can be reverted once/if the issues are clarified.

Yes, of course.

Somebody copied my question from mathstackexchange word-for-word
Curious that the transgressive account was only used in that instance, and not since.

Must I be precise when asking questions, or will readers fill gaps based on context?
When I was working on my thesis, I found in the literature a wonderful result that could be used to solve a nice problem I was considering. Examination of the proof revealed that the result required very restrictive additional assumptions that the author had not mentioned, trusting that they would be "clear from context". The problem is still open.

Anyway, once you post on the site, the content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribute-ShareAlike license, so I am not quite in favor of one-sided deletion that actually decreases the usefulness of the site, or of tip-toeing about it and posting the content again as CW or somesuch. (But I may well be in the minority here, it is not something I plan to argue, in case quid shows up.)

An anonymous user, so no, I do not see that.

This is fine as it goes, but I think undeleting the original answer is even better.
