Removing greetings and taglines
Editing greetings out accomplishes $A$ and $B$. If something else removes $B$ from being an issue (such as, the edit also fixes something that was actually broken), we still get $A$. Neither $A$ nor $B$ is desirable. If we get $A$ as a result of the edit, the edit should be avoided.

What's our consensus on people resurrecting old questions just to edit formatting?
(And @quid, I just saw your comment, somehow I missed the first time 'round, the notification system does not wait until you actually reads the comments before it disappears.)

I'll say that many of the edits I see happening are either very minor and I consider them unnecessary and intrusive, or are radical and inappropriate. (Fortunately, we also have appropriate edits happening as well.)

Reasons for closing
I would kindly like to ask Robert to refrain from editing incessantly. Once every day for a few consecutive days or so seems excessive but not terribly intrusive, but 16 edits on two days is way too much.

Is there any way for moderators to "edit" the comments that need to be LaTeX-ified, or to replace them with latexified copies?
