David S. Newman
As an undergraduate I studied mathematics at Brooklyn College. My favorite teacher was David M. Bloom who was a Putnam Fellow and taught a weekly Problem seminar each semester. As I didn't want to be inducted into the army during the Vietnam war, I chose to go to dental school which entitled me to a deferment. Although I am not a professional mathematician, mathematics remains my first love. I've had three problems published in the American Mathematical Monthly.
