Why was diamond removed from some MO moderators?
Thanks, Ravi. Probably many people at MO are unaware of the enormous role you play. (While I'm here, I had wanted to find a way to thank @BillJohnson for an earlier comment, but I was too late. My apologies, Bill, if you see this.)

@FrancescoPolizzi May I return the thanks, for all your contributions in helping to maintain these sites (here and at main). It's been a pleasure.

Carlo, Yemon, Peter -- thank you! Your words mean a lot to me, as I regard each of you with great respect. (Peter, sorry for the brevity of my greeting at CT 2024; I hope we can speak at greater length at a future meeting!)

Thank you, Sam. I'll just say that it's more difficult for nontechnical people like me. As you probably noticed, there are several discussions about AI currently on MO meta, but yes, still further discussion is needed.

Asking for consensus on mathematical conventions/definitions
@AndrésE.Caicedo Okay, but now you're turning this around, from nobody there knows anything about roots, which I find absurd, to mathematicians can't be counted on to offer expert advice on language usage. Listen, the question itself isn't exactly abstruse, you don't need a math PhD to answer it, and I think it won't fly at MO. I gave my own opinion about usage. Do you disagree with my first paragraph? You want to say something useful yourself to help out poor OP?

Asking for consensus on mathematical conventions/definitions
Really, Andrés? You think no one one with a mathematical background ever weighs in on English language usage? Or are you just having me on?

Asking for consensus on mathematical conventions/definitions
@AndrésE.Caicedo I find that preposterous -- not a single user there has any acquaintance with mathematics? In any case, a glance at the list of questions linked to by Martin shows that questions of mathematics terminology arise from time to time there.

Do lookalike characters in question titles pose any risks?
@LSpice It's fine to ask, and I appreciate your alertness. But I think this particular instance is unproblematic, a careless error. Thanks for editing.

Why does it seem that unlikely to you? What if the user is Polish?

Users using AI to write lots of answers
@ChristianRemling In at least one case where an answer was flagged as possibly AI, I had to look hard and say "even if it were, this actually seems to hold up", and so the answer passed the Turing test as far as I was concerned. But in all cases I've seen where I was sure it was AI, there has consistently been a fly in the ointment. That may change.

@AndyPutman Yes, it's the same user. I think in such cases you should act on your suspicions anyway -- thanks for asking.

New bolded tags?
It could also be something buggy (something like that happened back in 2016, again with boldface tags). Certainly it's been brought to attention since it seems to be network-wide.

Why can't I post a question?
And like David Roberts said: ChatGPT doesn't know what it is talking about.

I have a lot of trouble believing that you spent hours and hours honing a question into the form "-cube root(1/3)x = ? its a theory can you help?"
